Introduction (Step 1 of 7)
Getting Started
One of the many great features in EventSentry is the ability to monitor services. How many times have you wished that you had been notified when a crucial service stopped at the absolute worst time? For example, when the IIS service stops unexpectedly on your production web server, then this is probably something that you want to know about! This tutorial will walk you through the Service Monitoring aspect of EventSentry by setting up an email notification when a specific service changes status.
System Health
First off it is important to understand that Service Monitoring is a System Health item and can be added to any system health package. Health items itself do not actually send notifications, but instead log messages to the Application event log or consolidate information to your database. This is a bit different than filters which monitor the event log and forward events to a notification target (e.g. email). Other Health items include Diskspace Monitoring, Software Monitoring, and Performance Monitoring.
