Agent Deployment / Installation Prerequisites

When deploying agents with the management console (and not via MSI), the user running the management console needs to meet the following prerequisites on each remote host. If security policies prevent this then agents can also be installed manually or with an MSI installer.

Prerequisites

• The currently logged on user must be a local Administrator on the remote host
• Workstation service must be running
• Administrative Shares (ADMIN$, C$, ...) must be enabled
• Windows Firewall must permit Remote Service Management
• Windows Firewall must permit File and Printer Sharing (SMB..)

If the deployment still fails, then the following tests may show a more detailed error message:

Test 1: Write access to the remote ADMIN$ share

Simply map a network drive or connect to \\REMOTEHOST\ADMIN$ share and attempt to copy a test file to the remote \\REMOTEHOST\ADMIN$\SYSTEM32 directory.

Test 2: Connect to remote SCM (Service Control Manager)

Open the Services application and connect to the remote host or run the following command:
sc query eventlog \\REMOTEHOST

If both commands succeed then the management console should be able to deploy an agent to the remote host.
