Starting with v4.0, the management console will display a warning tile One or more EventSentry crash dumps were found - click for more instructions in the welcome dialog when one or more crash dumps have been found.

When an EventSentry component encounters an unexpected error it may generate an application fault and terminate, resulting in a crash dump file being generated by Windows. Crash dumps can be analyzed by software developers and can often (but not always) reveal the reason for the crash and help provide a bug fix.

On the host where EventSentry is installed, crash dumps are stored in the C:\Program Files\EventSentry\crashdumps directory by default. This includes

  • Management Console
  • Collector
  • Heartbeat Agent
  • Network Services

Agent crash dumps are stored in the %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\EventSentry\crashdumps directory.

Note: It may be useful to also include the latest debug log files from the crashing component, if their timestamp matches the timestamp of the crash dump file. Log files are located in the %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\EventSentry\logs directory.

Please follow the steps below to submit the crash dump(s) to support:

  1. Crash dumps can be large, as such compress the crash dumps prior to submitting them.
  2. Navigate to https://store.netikus.net/account and log in with your email address and password.
  3. Navigate to the File Upload section.
  4. In the upload form, specify the version of EventSentry you are running and optionally any other information that may be useful for support. If unsure, simply upload the file without any comments.
  5. Delete the crash dump after you have received confirmation from support that it has been received.
