Why I am unable to install the EventSentry agent on a remote computer prior to v2.6?

I am unable to install the EventSentry agent on a remote computer. I either get the error "Unable to start service (timeout)" from within the management application, or the error "Unable to start service because no valid license was found" when I try to start the EventSentry service from Windows itself.

This is a known bug in all versions of EventSentry up to build 2.60.0.127. Under certain circumstances the remote update feature of EventSentry will not properly transfer the license to a remote computer.

To resolve this problem either update to version 2.60.0.129 (when available) or follow the instructions below exactly to workaround this problem:

  1. Close & restart the EventSentry management application
  2. Select and expand a group so that the "Computers" container is visible.
  3. If the remote computer name is not already visible under the "Computers" container then add the computer to the group. For example, right-click the "Computers" container and click "Add".
  4. When the computer has been added do the following:

*) Right-click the "Computers" container and click "Update Configuration", make sure all checkboxes are checked.
*) If you see checkboxes next to the computer(s), right-click the white area and select "Go".
*) Right-click the "Computers" container and click "Manage Agent(s) -> Start". If you see checkboxes next to the computer(s), right-click the white area and select "Go".

The management should now indicate that the service was successfully started. If this procedure does not solve the problem then please contact our support team.
